Steam Profiling Systems

steam profiling systems

During the paper manufacturing process, many  process conditions are manipulated to control the physical properties of the paper such as weight, thickness, color, strength, and moisture. While most of these variables remain fixed after the paper is made, the moisture content begins to change almost immediately.

Steam profiling is used for improving moisture profiles in paper machines by removing cross machine and machine direction curl. Kadant’s Steam-Foil™ steam profiling system has been successfully used for paper curl control and moisture correction for all types of paper products in the converting industry. The Narrow Web Decurler™ and Steam-Foil steam profiling systems use Coanda flow technology to precisely apply steam to paper webs for accurate control of moisture content.

Features

  • Coanda flow technology using low-pressure steam
  • Integrated profileable vacuum chamber
  • Individual steam values to apply ribbons of steam across the web

Benefits

  • Removes cross machine and machine direction curl
  • Improves moisture content and profile of base sheet
  • Provides a lay-flat sheet for all converting applications
  • Reduces waste
  • Enhances coating and print quality by providing a more uniform and stable sheet profile
  • Optimizes calendaring performance by reducing sheet moisture variation

Applications

  • Coating
  • Laminating
  • Printing
  • Sheeting

Steam-Foil™ Profiling Systems

A Steam-Foil profiling system uses a variety of applications to control moisture, curl, surface finish, gloss, and smoothness in a paper machine in the converting industry.

Narrow Web Decurler™ Steam Profiling System

A Narrow Web Decurler steam profiling system controls the amount of steam across the width of the paper machine web, providing both cross-machine direction and machine-direction curl control.
